Greenliner starts up Egypt's largest Containerboard machine
Greenliner has successfully started up its state-of-the-art paper machine at the company’s 10th of Ramadan City mill in October 2025.
Greenliner’s PM 1 is Egypt’s largest containerboard mill, producing paper starting from 80gsm on a 5.10m machine deckle, serving the needs of both local and export customers. Greenliner’s PM 1 has been delivered by Valmet, with stock preparation technology supplied by Voith, bringing together two of the leading papermaking technology suppliers to ensure the most advanced production capability, efficiency and quality output. Together with the group’s second machine in Borg El Arab Industrial Zone, Greenliner reinforces its position as Egypt’s leading containerboard producer and a growing force in regional and international markets. The group’s Borg El Arab mill offers a strong portfolio of brown and white, virgin and recycled containerboard grades. Over the past years, it has been a driving force in advancing both product diversity and quality standards in Egypt’s paper industry, laying the foundation for further growth with PM 1.
This successful startup marks a milestone for the Egyptian paper industry. It will raise the standards of locally produced containerboard further and we are not only strengthening our market position but also contributing to the growth and competitiveness of the sector in Egypt and the region. The global containerboard marketplace has shifted significantly the past couple of years, but our standing as a high-quality containerboard producer has remained strong with increasing demand in our home market as well as in the global market. Moreover, the Middle East has become increasingly vital in global supply, and with PM 1 we are responding to these market gaps.
Mohamed F. Ashour, CEO of Greenliner
Egypt’s paper and packaging market is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by rising domestic consumption, FMCG expansion, and the surge in e-commerce. Historically reliant on imports of higher-quality grades, local converters have often faced challenges in securing sufficient and consistent supply that meets international standards. PM 1 addresses this gap by delivering internationally competitive containerboard, positioning Egypt more firmly within global supply chains.
